How to Organize Your Shed So You Can Actually Find Your Stuff

If you’re like most homeowners, your shed contains all sorts of junk that has no place in your home but isn’t worth taking to the dump. But with a little planning and the right tools, you can create an organized space that will help you find exactly what you need and keep things from falling through the cracks. Here are some tips to get you started on your own project!

Set up zones

It’s time to get your shed in order. A place for everything and everything in its place, right? Well, it’s not that simple. The key is creating zones so you can find what you need when you need it.

Choose your containers

You’ll need a few different containers to organize your shed. A good place to start is with a stack of storage bins for things like tools and tarps. Next, you’ll want some smaller bins or buckets for organizing nails, screws, bolts, and other small items. For larger items like lawnmowers or snowblowers, use a plastic tarp or sheet as a cover and then tie the corners together with rope.

Pack your bins correctly

-Label the outside of your bins with what’s inside. This will help you know what’s in there without having to open it up.

-Stack your bins on top of each other so that their lids are facing out and the labels are facing inwards. This way, you’ll be able to grab a bin and quickly find its corresponding lid.

-Keep bins off the floor by stacking them on top of each other or propping them against something sturdy like a shelf or bookshelf.

Label, label, label!

Labels are the key to organizing your shed. Label everything and try to keep things organized by type. For example, put all the tools in one section, put all the gardening supplies in another section, and so on. Write what’s inside each box or bin on a label and then stick it on. That way, you can find exactly what you’re looking for when you need it!

Get rid of the clutter

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to organizing your shed, the first step is often just getting rid of the clutter. To do this, make piles of items that can be discarded or donated. The goal is to create a clean space for organization. And don’t forget – if you’re trying to get rid of things, try selling them first!

Don’t forget about maintenance

Once you’ve tidied up your shed, it’s important to maintain the organization. Just because you found all your stuff doesn’t mean that you won’t lose it again. To avoid this from happening, make an effort to put everything back where it belongs on a regular basis. In addition, try not to add too much clutter or new items as these can cause a lapse in organization and lead to forgetting about things.
